Joseph Xavier Cerrito was an Italian-American mobster who led the San Jose Crime Family from 1964 to 1972. Immigrating from Sicily to New York City in the 1920s, he became affiliated with the Profaci family before moving to California. Under Cerrito's leadership, the family had about 24 'made men' and maintained a low-profile while he owned three car dealerships. He participated in the infamous Apalachin meeting in 1957 and was later labeled a crime boss by Life magazine, prompting a defamation lawsuit. Cerrito passed away in 1978.
