Joseph Ithai, originally named Yoshko Indig, was a youth leader who played a crucial role in saving a group of Jewish children of German, Austrian, and Yugoslav descent during World War II. He helped them escape Nazi persecution by smuggling them from Yugoslavia to Italy, where they stayed for about a year in Villa Emma. After the Nazi invasion of Italy in September 1943, he fled to Switzerland with the children, remaining there until the end of the war. Post-war, he immigrated with the children to Israel, settling in Kibbutz Gat.
