Joseph M. Getty, born on April 14, 1952, is the former chief judge of the Supreme Court of Maryland. Appointed as a judge on June 27, 2016, he became chief judge on September 11, 2021. Getty is a former Republican state senator and delegate for Maryland's 5th district and served in Governor Hogan's cabinet. He has contributed to the Northern News and has a background in the Historical Society of Carroll County. Getty graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law.
