Joseph Park Moorer was a vice admiral in the United States Navy, born on October 18, 1922, in Mount Willing, Alabama. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1941 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and later in the Vietnam War. From 1977 to 1980, he was Commander in Chief of United States Naval Forces Europe. After retiring in 1980, he lived in Florida, where he passed away on February 26, 2014. He was the younger brother of Admiral Thomas Hinman Moorer.
