Joseph Pararajasingham was a prominent Sri Lankan Tamil civil servant, journalist, businessman, and politician, born on 26 November 1934. He served as a Member of Parliament for the Batticaloa District from 1990 to 2004 and was a National List Member of Parliament from 2004 until his death in December 2005. A member of the Tamil National Alliance, he was assassinated on Christmas Day while attending midnight mass at St. Mary's Cathedral in Batticaloa. His contributions to the Tamil community and politics are remembered despite his tragic assassination.
