Joshua Casteel was a U.S. Army soldier, conscientious objector, playwright, and divinity student. He volunteered for the army in 2002 and served as an interrogator at Abu Ghraib prison. In 2005, he was honorably discharged as a conscientious objector and became involved in the anti-war movement. Casteel ultimately died from lung cancer in 2012, a condition likely caused by exposure to toxic fumes from burn pits during his military service in Iraq.
