He is recognized as the first athlete from Sula municipality to win a royal cup in an individual sport after the municipality's foundation. His son, Knut Håland, followed in 2020 as the second royal cup winner in individual sports, also in disc golf. Håland has clinched the Israeli championship and has multiple victories in pargolf-NM and Norgescupen. He was the highest-ranked player in Norway for a period and reached a PDGA rating of 1001 in 2013.
