Jouko Jalmari Vesikansa was a Finnish lexicographer and columnist born on April 27, 1915, in Turku. He graduated from high school in 1935 and completed his Master's degree in 1938. He worked as an editor for the Nykysuomen dictionary from 1938 to 1946 and served in various academic language institutions until 1976. He was also the chief editor of the Nykysuomen base dictionary starting in 1971 and became a special researcher at the Kotimaisten kielten tutkimuskeskus.
