Józef Barnaś is a Polish physicist born on March 12, 1951, in Borowa, Podkarpackie. He is a professor of physical sciences specializing in theoretical physics and solid state theory. He is an academic teacher at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and a professor at the Molecular Physics Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He is known for the theoretical description of the giant magnetoresistance phenomenon. Barnaś has received numerous awards including the FNP Award, known as the 'Polish Nobel' in 2009, and the Marian Smoluchowski Medal in 2008.
