Józef Kępa was a Polish historian and communist activist, born on May 18, 1928, in Rzeczyca, and died on April 28, 1998, in Warsaw. He served as a member of the Sejm of the People's Republic of Poland during its V, VI, and VII terms. Kępa was also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party from 1975 to 1980, served as Deputy Prime Minister from 1976 to 1979, and was Minister of Administration, Local Economy, and Environmental Protection from 1979 to 1981. He led the Citizens' Committee for the Reconstruction of the Royal Castle in Warsaw from 1971 to 1982 and was awarded the Order of Builders of People's Poland.
