Juan Elías Medina was a Spanish priest and a martyr of the Spanish Civil War. Born on November 16, 1902, in Castro del Río, he became a parish priest after his ordination in 1926. Following the outbreak of the Civil War, he was arrested on July 22, 1936, and executed on September 25, 1936. Medina forgave his persecutors before his death and famously called out 'Viva Cristo Rey.' He was beatified by Pope Francis on October 16, 2021, with his liturgical feast day set for September 25.
