Born on August 16, 1942, he qualified as an accountant after his studies in Nigeria and the United States. He was initially part of the Social Democratic Party, later joining the United Nigeria Congress Party. In 1999, he ran for governor of Ogun State but was unsuccessful. However, he was appointed as minister of state for finance and subsequently as minister of commerce and industry in the government of Goodluck Jonathan, serving from 2010 to 2011.
