Julen Urkiza Txakartegi is a Basque writer and Carmelite born on April 1, 1944, in Ondarroa, Bizkaia. At the age of eighteen, he was sent to Vienna to study philosophy and theology, where he spent several years involved in youth apostolate, archivist, and librarian roles. Upon returning to the Basque Country, he took over the direction of Karmel magazine in 1984, where he has published numerous articles, interviews, historical research, and reports.
