Jules Avaux was a Belgian politician and trade unionist born on May 8, 1906, in Gosselies and died on September 7, 1966, in Mesvin. He became a municipal councillor in 1932 and a socialist alderman in 1939. He secretly joined the Communist Party during the same period. After going into hiding in 1941, he founded a cell of the Front wallon and published a magazine. He was elected to the Communist Party's Central Committee in 1946 but gradually distanced himself from it due to health reasons. He later returned to the Socialist Party.
