Julius Viel was a German journalist and author, born on February 21, 1918, in Überlingen, Bodensee. He served as an SS-Untersturmführer in the Waffen-SS during World War II. After the war, he pursued a career in journalism and was recognized for his volunteer and political engagement, receiving the Federal Cross of Merit. However, in 2001, he was sentenced to twelve years in prison for committing a sevenfold murder in 1945. He passed away on February 25, 2002, in Wangen im Allgäu.
