Corporal Jyoti Prakash Nirala was a member of the Gurud Commando Force who was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India's highest peacetime military honor, on January 26, 2018. He was recognized for his bravery and was the first individual to receive such an award for ground combat. Additionally, he was the third person overall to receive the Ashoka Chakra, following Air Force personnel Suhas Biswas and Rakesh Sharma.
