Kanagaratnam Thavalingam is a notable Sri Lankan Tamil geographer who served as the former Surveyor General of Sri Lanka. Born in Kaithady, he was educated at the Jaffna Hindu College. Thavalingam held various prominent positions within the Survey Department, including Senior Deputy Surveyor General and Additional Surveyor General, ultimately becoming the 45th Surveyor General in 2013. He is a fellow of the Surveyor Institute and actively participated in its council.
