Kabindra Purkayastha is a former central minister from India, born on December 15, 1931. He served as the Minister of State for Communications in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government from 1998 to 1999. A senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Assam, he was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1991 from the Silchar constituency and was re-elected in 1998. He defeated heavyweight candidates like Santosh Mohan Dev and Badruddin Ajmal in the 2009 elections but lost to Susmita Dev in 2014 despite the Modi wave supporting him.
