Kader Abdolah, born Hossein Sajadi, is an Iranian-Dutch author born on December 12, 1954, in Arak, Iran. He emigrated to the Netherlands in 1988 following the Iranian Revolution due to his opposition to the clerical regime. Abdolah studied physics at Tehran University, graduating in 1977. He began his literary career in exile, using the pen name Kader Abdolah, which honors two executed friends. He worked as a packaging factory manager before fleeing Iran in 1985. Abdolah learned Dutch and gained acclaim for his literary works, notably winning the Dutch Literature Prize for beginners in 1993.
