Harry Kaj Olof Backlund was a Finnish jazz trumpeter, composer, arranger, bandleader, and music educator. Born on February 24, 1945, he co-founded the Helsinki Pop & Jazz Conservatory and contributed to the establishment of the Jazz Department at the Sibelius Academy. A prominent figure in contemporary music education in Finland, he also played an essential role in founding the UMO Jazz Orchestra. He began his musical journey at a young age, leading a big band at 14 and later working as a session musician. Backlund's legacy also includes mentoring future musicians.
