Kalidas Karmakar (1946 - October 18, 2019) was a renowned Bangladeshi painter celebrated for his experimental approach to art. Born in 1946 in Faridpur, which was part of British India, Karmakar began painting in his childhood. After completing school, he formally studied painting at the Dhaka Institute of Arts in 1963-64, followed by a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Government College of Fine Arts and Craft in Kolkata in 1969, graduating with top honors. He was known for his European modernist style. Karmakar passed away at the age of 73.
