He served as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from 1995 to 2014, representing the Dharmasala constituency. His tenure included roles like Panchayati Raj Minister in 2012, Rajya Sabha MP from 2014, and State Panchayati Raj and Parliamentary Affairs Minister in 2013. Notably, he was active in regional politics until his death on 25 July 2015, when he was cremated in his native Jajpur district.
