Kanako Otsuji is a Japanese LGBT rights activist and member of the House of Representatives for the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, as well as a member of the House of Councillors. Born on December 16, 1974, she served in the Osaka Prefectural Assembly from April 2003 to April 2007, representing Sakai. In May 2013, she became the first openly lesbian member of the Japanese parliament after her party member resigned. She was re-elected in the 2017 general elections, making her the first openly LGBT member in the House of Representatives.
