Kao Cheng-yan is a prominent activist and the founding chair of the Green Party Taiwan, as well as a member of the Taiwan Environmental Protection Union. He has a history as a Taiwan independence activist from his student days in the United States. In addition to running for the Legislative Yuan on multiple occasions, Kao has been actively involved in environmental issues, especially opposing nuclear power projects, and led a campaign for a referendum against the Lungmen Nuclear Power Plant. He is also a professor of Bioinformatics at National Taiwan University.
