Kaoru Okamoto was a Japanese writer and educator born on October 9, 1905, in Usuki, Oita Prefecture. He graduated from Matsuyama High School and the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Letters. Okamoto worked for the Yokohama City Office and later the Uraga Shipyard. During World War II, he served as a lieutenant in the army. After the war, he became a writer. He became a board member of Kōmyō Gakuin in 1964 and its chairman in 1975, having been influenced by Ben-Ei Yamazaki's ideas on Kōmyōism since he was 19.
