He studied commercial art from 1928 to 1930 at the Statens handverks- og kunstindustriskule and later at the Statens kunstakademi from 1935 to 1939. Influenced by Danish painter Georg Jacobsen and Impressionist style, especially Pierre Bonnard, his works feature deep, vibrant colors. Early pieces bore a heavy color palette, evolving to a lighter, more contrasting scheme. He painted both figurative and landscape works, with 'Landskap' from 1949 held in the National Gallery in Oslo.
