Karekin II, born Kadrik Nersisyan in 1951 in Vokhijad, Armenia, is the current Catholicos of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church. He was elected as the head of the Armenian Church and installed as Catholicos in 1999, succeeding Catholicos Karekin I Sargsyan. He is known for representing the Armenian Apostolic Church while the Catholicos Aram I leads the Catholicosate of Cilicia headquartered in Antelias, Lebanon.
