Karen Briggs is an American violinist born in 1963 in New York City. She grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia, where she began playing the violin at a young age and studied music and media at Norfolk State University after graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1981. She played with the Virginia Orchestra for four years from 1983 before moving back to New York. She gained recognition and eventually married in 1988, relocating to Los Angeles, and gained fame in America and Japan. Briggs worked with composer Yanni from 1991 for thirteen years, touring and recording various albums.
