He serves as a colonel in the Defense Army of the Republic of Artsakh and is the commander of the 'Yeqnikner' military unit. Jalavyan is a recipient of the title 'Hero of Artsakh.' He was awarded the 2nd class medal for 'Service to the Fatherland' on January 21, 2015, and the 1st class 'Battle Cross' order on September 21, 2016, for his notable military leadership during the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War.
