Throughout her political career, she alternated the position of mayor with Nils Nilssen from the Labour Party. In the 2007 election, she received the highest personal votes but had to pass the mayoral chain to Nils Nilssen, as the Labour Party gained the most votes as a party. She was re-elected as mayor in 2011.
