After serving in public education and obtaining his doctorate at Leipzig, he worked at the Central Office for German Personal and Family History. He became the director of the City Archive in Zwickau in 1951, contributing significantly to local history and family research. His collection of watermarks is part of the German Book and Writing Museum. His legacy includes a range of publications and archival documentation now housed in various institutions.
