Karl Walter Kamper was an American astronomer and asteroid discoverer, born on April 20, 1941, in Pittsburgh and passed away on February 2, 1998. His primary research focused on astrometry and spectroscopy of visual and spectroscopic double stars, as well as measuring the proper motion of the supernova remnant CAS A. He worked at several observatories, including the Lick Observatory, Van Vleck Observatory, and the David Dunlap Observatory, where he spent the remainder of his career from 1974 until his death. Kamper discovered three asteroids between 1963 and 1978.
