Miren Karmele Rotaetxe Amusategi was a Basque linguist and professor of general linguistics. Born in Bilbao on January 17, 1932, she studied at the University of Deusto and the University of the Basque Country. As a French teacher, she focused on the Basque language during Franco's regime. Her work concentrated on the morphology and syntax of Basque and the analysis of European languages. She completed a thesis on the structural study of Basque in Ondarroa under Koldo Mitxelena. She was a member of Euskaltzaindia since 1979 and an honorary member from November 24, 2004.
