Károly Széchy was a Hungarian civil engineer specializing in geotechnical and tunnel engineering. Born on December 27, 1903, in Budapest, he served as a professor at the Budapest University of Technology and a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Széchy played a leading role in the construction of the Budapest Metro and the reconstruction of the Danube bridges in Budapest that were destroyed during World War II, including the Árpád Bridge, which was completed in 1950. He authored textbooks on geotechnics and tunneling, which were translated into German and English.
