Karu Jayasuriya is a Sri Lankan politician and former Minister of Home Affairs and Public Administration. He served as the Mayor of Colombo and was a candidate for the Chief Minister of the Western Province. He became Energy Minister after the United National Party's success in the 2001 parliamentary elections. Following a shift in political allegiances and a return to opposition, he contested the 2005 presidential election as the party's Prime Ministerial candidate. In September 2015, he was elected as the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
