Kasdi Merbah was an Algerian politician born on April 16, 1938. He served as Prime Minister under President Chadli Bendjedid and was the head of Algeria's intelligence services during Houari Boumediene's presidency until around 1979. Merbah was known for his national and security credentials, notably during the Cold War. Under his leadership, the Algerian intelligence established a listening post in Lebanon and trained the Western Sahara army, known as the Polisario Front.
