Kastehelmi Karjalainen (1911-1973) was a Finnish performer, known for interpreting folk poetry. Born in Helsinki, she was raised in a family with deep Karjalan roots. She studied Finnish language, literature, and folk poetry at Helsinki University. Karjalainen married architect Heimo Riihimäki in 1938, and they had four children, two of whom joined her on performance tours. During the Winter War, she toured among the frontlines and performed on Aunuksen radio, while also collecting poetry from various regions in Karelia.
