Katie Salen is an American game designer, animator, and educator. She is a professor at the University of California, Irvine and previously taught at various institutions including DePaul University and Parsons School of Design. Salen co-authored 'Rules of Play' and edited 'The Game Design Reader.' She is the executive director of the Institute of Play and co-developed Quest to Learn, a public school in New York, focusing on learning through game design. Her work includes the development of various types of games, both commercially and institutionally.
