In October 2020, she became the deputy CEO and chief advisor at Miltton consulting firm. Later, in October 2022, she was appointed as the secretary of state for Minister of Finance Annika Saarikko. Makkonen holds a Master's degree in Political Science from the University of Helsinki, specializing in international politics.
