She served as the second deputy mayor and councilor in Frederiksberg Municipality from January 1, 2010, to April 20, 2015, representing the Socialdemokraterne party. A graduate in philosophy, she also works as a communications manager. She was elected to the municipal council in 2005 and was re-elected in 2009 as the party's leading candidate. Lester announced her candidacy for mayor in 2012 and received the highest personal votes for her party during the 2013 election.
