In 2004, he earned his doctorate in economics from Kobe University. His areas of expertise include Russian economics and mathematical economics. He has also served as the vice president of Osaka Prefecture University and as the vice president of the Japan Association for Russian and East European Studies. Miyamoto hails from Wakayama City, Wakayama Prefecture.
