Kauko Samuel Hämäläinen (1928–1986) was a Finnish painter known for his journey from geometric compositions to abstraction. He was part of the art group Ryhmä 4 in Finland. Hämäläinen's early works in the 1950s focused on geometric figurative art, later evolving into more informalistic styles in the 1960s with minimal color palettes. By the 1970s, his art featured dominant horizontal and vertical lines. In the 1980s, he created sensitive charcoal and pastel works. Despite his talent and prolific output, he lived a reclusive life and rarely exhibited his art.
