Kay Lahusen, born on January 5, 1930, and passing on May 26, 2021, was a pioneering photographer known for her contributions to LGBTQ rights. A trailblazing openly lesbian photojournalist within the LGBT movement, Lahusen's work featured prominently in The Ladder during the years 1964 to 1966, a publication edited by her partner Barbara Gittings. In 1970, she co-founded the Gay Activists Alliance and collaborated with the Gay Newsweekly. Lahusen was also a co-author of The Gay Crusaders alongside Randy Wicker.
