He debuted as a jockey in 1975 and was the main jockey for notable horses, winning titles including JRA年度代表馬 with Hōyō Boy and the Tokyo Yūshun with Sirius Symboli. He retired from riding in 2005 to become a trainer, where he managed horses like Hanazukōru, which won the All Aged Stakes in Australia. His son is a well-known trainer in JRA, and there is another horseman with the same name in Kanazawa.
