Kazuko Kōri is a Japanese politician and the mayor of Sendai since 2017. She previously served as a member of the House of Representatives from 2005 to 2017, representing the Miyagi 1 district and the Tōhoku proportional representation block as a member of the Democratic Progress Party. Educated at Tohoku Gakuin University, she transitioned to politics after a career in broadcasting. Kōri narrowly lost her initial election in 2005 but won in 2009. She played roles in government during the Democratic Party's administration and successfully campaigned for a second term as mayor in 2021.
