He is notable for being the father of Kasym-Jomart Tokayev, the current president of Kazakhstan. Toqaev belonged to the Kushik clan of the Zhalayyr tribe of the Great Juz. He passed away on October 6, 1986, in Almaty, leaving a legacy in both literature and his family's prominent role in Kazakhstan's political landscape.
