He pioneered a unique style called Taimu, characterized by its large, wide bore, developed with contributions from shakuhachi player Brian Ritchie. LaCosse was active in promoting this instrument and contributed significantly to its music scene until his passing on June 28, 2019, in San Francisco, California.
