Ken Mattingly (March 17, 1936 - October 31, 2023) was a former American naval officer, aviator, aerospace engineer, test pilot, and admiral in the U.S. Navy, as well as a NASA astronaut. He participated in the Apollo 16, STS-4, and STS-51-C missions. Mattingly was originally intended to fly on Apollo 13 but was withdrawn on short notice due to an illness later found to be a false alarm. He later commanded the Apollo 16 command module and is one of only 24 people who have traveled to the Moon.
