Ken Salazar is an American politician who served as the 50th U.S. Secretary of the Interior from 2009 to 2013 under President Barack Obama. A member of the Democratic Party, he was also a U.S. Senator from Colorado from 2005 to 2009. Salazar, along with Mel Martinez, was one of the first two US Senators of Hispanic descent since 1977. Before his Senate career, he served as Colorado's Attorney General from 1999 to 2005. He was appointed Secretary of the Interior in December 2008 and resigned in 2013 to join a law firm.
