He served as the Director-General for Global Issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2012, and was appointed Director-General of the Department of Foreign Affairs in 2012. He became the Japanese Ambassador to India in 2015 and later served as the Ambassador to Spain from 2019 to 2022.
